Food waste collection
in the Sydney CBD.

We collect food waste every week across the Sydney CBD, from The Rocks and Barangaroo down to Haymarket, and out to Pyrmont, Ultimo, Surry Hills and Darlinghurst. Each 120L bin costs $45 to $54 a week by weight, ex GST, plus a fuel levy.

Sydney CBD

Where we collect
in the city.

The CBD and the inner city fringe are all inside the area we collect: The Rocks, Millers Point and Barangaroo in the north, through the city grid to Haymarket and Chinatown, west to Pyrmont and Ultimo, and east to Surry Hills, Darlinghurst and Chippendale. If your address is in the City of Sydney local government area and you are not sure, send it to us and we will confirm.

How collection works here

Set up once.
Runs every week.

  1. We deliver the kit

Caddy, liners, signage and the 120L bin, set up in the kitchen.

  2. Collected weekly

We collect the bin on the same day every week.

  3. We set your tier

For the first few weeks we watch the real weights, then set the tier that fits.

Your collection day

Your bin is collected once a week on a fixed day, set when you sign up. We confirm the day when you enquire.

Loading docks, laneways and building managers

Most CBD kitchens do not put a bin on the street. The bin lives in a basement bin room, a loading dock or a shared laneway enclosure, and the building manager controls access. Three things make city collections run smoothly:

  • Agree where the 120L bin sits with your building manager before it arrives, ideally next to the general waste bins so the walk from the kitchen is the same.
  • Tell us about access: dock hours, a swipe card, a height limit or a laneway gate. Access is the most common reason a collection is missed anywhere.
  • Check who holds the waste contract. In many towers and arcades the landlord arranges general waste for every tenant.

The NSW rules in the city

The City of Sydney already runs a food and garden organics (FOGO) service for households, according to the NSW EPA's council list, so many of your staff will know the habit from home. For businesses, the NSW food waste rules apply on top of that: covered sites must separate food waste once their general waste bins reach 3,960L a week from 1 July 2026, 1,980L from 1 July 2028 and 720L from 1 July 2030. Councils check compliance for most businesses, so in the CBD that is the City of Sydney.

Where a landlord or facilities manager holds the waste contract, as in many shopping centres and food courts, the NSW EPA says they must work with tenants and supply enough food waste bins. Food court dining areas open to the public are exempt until 1 July 2030, but back-of-house kitchens are not. The full guide to the NSW food waste rules covers this in detail.

What it costs

The price is the same as everywhere we collect: $45 a 120L bin a week for up to 20kg a lift, $49 for up to 35kg and $54 for up to 50kg, ex GST, plus a 9.93% fuel levy shown as its own line. For the first few weeks we watch the real weights, then set the tier that fits. See how the weight tiers work.

Sydney CBD questions

Local
questions.

Every area has the same prices. See all the areas we collect.

Can you collect from a basement bin room?
Usually, yes. Tell us how the bin room is reached (dock hours, height limits, swipe access) when you enquire, and agree the bin position with your building manager first.
Our landlord handles the general waste. Can we still have our own food waste bin?
Yes. Many tenants arrange their own food waste collection. Let your building manager know, since under the NSW rules the waste contract holder has to work with tenants on food waste.
Is there a minimum number of bins in the city?
No. You can start with one 120L bin and add more if you need them.
